In 1947, following a memorandum addressed to the Ministry of National Education regarding the establishment of a Polytechnic in Cluj with three faculties:
Constructions, Electromechanics and Forestry, through the provisions of the Law for education reform of August 1948, the Institute of Mechanics was created in Cluj, with a faculty two sections:
Thermotechnics and Work Machines. Since 2012, the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca has thirteen faculties following the merger with the North University of Baia-Mare which became
the North University Center of Baia-Mare with the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Letters, the Faculty of Mineral Resources and Environment and Faculty of Sciences.
Currently, the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca prepares specialists through undergraduate, master's, doctoral and postgraduate studies, the number of students exceeding 20,000.
High-performance, fundamental or applied scientific research is an essential concern of UTCN teachers and researchers. The scientific potential of the University has enabled it to organize or
to be involved in organizing large-scale scientific events, with a large participation of Romanian and foreign specialists.

The University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj-Napoca is the successor of the prestigious high school of agriculture in Cluj, founded 145 years ago,
in October 1869, under the name of Cluj-Mănăştur Institute of Agronomic Education. In 1906, the Institute was elevated to the rank of Academy, bearing the name of Cluj Academy of Agriculture.
